Charlene Vickers is Anishinabe artist based in Vancouver B.C. and an MFA grad of Simon Fraser University (2013). She completed a BA at SFU in Art and Culture Studies and Studio diploma from Emily Carr College of Art specializing in Painting. Her interdisciplinary work includes painting, sculpture, performance and video to explore how memory, healing and ties to ancestral lands can be achieved through bodily gesture and archival images. My Breath, My Gravity, her thesis exhibit of vertical stripes as index of Anishinabe presence and joy was exhibited at the Audain Gallery in September 2013. Ominjimendaan: to remember was shown at Urban Shaman in Winnipeg, MN and grunt gallery in Vancouver, B.C. in 2012. Her mixed media moccasin works have been exhibited across Canada and the US, and can be seen in the permanent collections at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC in Vancouver. She is currently on the Board of Directors at grunt gallery in Vancouver, BC.
